In a thrilling masterwork that will make you rethink your perceptions of life and death, New York Times bestselling author James Rollins takes you to the edge of medicine, genetics, and technology, revealing the next evolutionary leap forward: immortality—a horrifying truth that is locked inside the Bloodline

Galilee, 1025. Infiltrating an ancient citadel, a Templar knight uncovers a holy treasure long hidden within the fortress's labyrinth: the Bachal Isu—the staff of Jesus Christ—a priceless icon that holds a mysterious and terrifying power that promises to change humankind forever.

A millennium later, Somali pirates hijack a yacht off the coast of the Horn of Africa, kidnapping a young pregnant American woman. Commander Gray Pierce is enlisted for the covert rescue mission into the African jungle—for the woman is no rich tourist; she's Amanda Gant-Bennett, the daughter of the U.S. president.

Suspicious that the kidnapping masks a far more nefarious plot, Gray must confront a shadowy cabal, one who has been manipulating events throughout history . . . and now challenges the current presidency.

For this sensitive mission, SIGMA is aided by a pair of special operatives with unique talents: former Army Ranger Captain Tucker Wayne and his military war dog, Kane. But what should be a straightforward rescue turns into a fiery ambush and a deadly act of betrayal as Gray and his team discover that the hostage is a pawn in a shattering act of terrorism with dark repercussions. And the danger is only beginning. . . .

Halfway around the world, a firebombing at a fertility clinic in South Carolina exposes a centuries-old conspiracy to manipulate our genetic code. With time against them, SIGMA must race to save an innocent unborn baby, one who holds the key to a mystery and whose very existence raises questions about the nature of humanity, asking:

Could you live forever?

Would you live forever?

Review:

"Rollins' eighth thriller featuring the covert U.S. intelligence agency known as Sigma Force (after The Devil Colony) is of a piece with its predecessors — it's fast-paced, full of twists, and thick with intrigue. Beginning strong with an engaging preface discussing the shadowy history of the Knights Templar and 21st-century medical breakthroughs with the potential to make immortality possible, Rollins rewinds to the 12th-century recovery of the Bachul Isu, the staff of Jesus Christ. Just a few pages later, Rollins presses fast-forward again to 'Five Days from Now,' when Commander Gray Pierce of the Sigma Force has U.S. President James T. Gant in the crosshairs of his sniper rifle. The rest of the novel explains how things got to such a pass, starting with the abduction — apparently by pirates — of President Gant's pregnant daughter, Amanda, off the Seychelles. The narrow escapes and betrayals between Amanda's kidnapping and Gant's imminent assassination are unsurprising, but the momentum of the plot will carry along those looking for an exciting escape. Synopsis:

A yacht bearing a young American couple is attacked by Somali pirates, leading to bloodshed and the violent kidnapping of the pregnant woman on board. To aid in her rescue from the lawless and war-torn jungles of coastal Africa, Sigma Force enlists the aid of a unique search team: former army ranger Captain Tucker Wayne and his military war dog, Kane. But what appears to be a straightforward mission turns into a fiery ambush and betrayal—for this most valuable hostage is in fact the president's daughter.

Halfway around the world, a firebombing at a fertility clinic in the United States reveals a group of women collected from around the globe and enslaved to bear children by artificial means. One woman lives long enough to give birth to a stillborn baby, but a genetic study reveals the child bears an impossible abnormality—a triple helix of DNA.

To uncover the dark truth hidden within our genetic code and shrouded by a centuries-old conspiracy, Commander Gray Pierce and Tucker Wayne must team up to save an unborn child, a child whose very existence raises a pair of ageless questions:

Could you live forever?

Would you live forever?
