Publisher Comments:

The Koran, as N. J. Dawood states, is 'not only one of the most influential books of prophetic literature but also a literary masterpiece in its own right. Universally accepted by Muslims to be the infallible Word of God as revealed to Mohammed by the Angel Gabriel nearly fourteen hundred years ago, the Koran still provides the rules of conduct fundamental to the Arab way of life. N. J. Dawood's masterly translation, first published in the mid-1950s and now completely revised in the light of a life-long study of the language and style of the Koran, presents the English reader with a clear, fluent and authoritative rendering, while fully reflecting the characteristic flavour and rhythm of the original. The present edition follows the original sequence of the Koranic suras and is accompanied by a comprehensive index and a parallel Arabic text.

Synopsis:

This edition uses N.J.Dawood's translation of "The Koran" rearranged into the traditional Koranic order with a parallel Arabic text.

Synopsis:

N. J. Dawoods masterful translation in a fully revised edition

The Koran is universally accepted by Muslims to be the infallible word of God as first revealed to the prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel nearly fourteen hundred years ago. Its 114 chapters recount the narratives and rules of conduct central to Islamic belief, and together they form one of the worlds most influential prophetic works and a literary masterpiece in its own right. We offer this newly revised edition of N. J. Dawoods classic translation in two formats: one with the original Arabic in parallel text and one without.

Synopsis:

Laid out page by page alongside a parallel Arabic text in the customary calligraphic style. Includes an introduction, chronology and index.
