Now One Foot, Now the Other Cover

Staff Pick

Now One Foot, Now the Other is an absolutely sweet grandfather-grandson friendship story, but it's also a great tool for teaching kids about strokes and preparing them for the changes they might see. In fact, I had a young friend once who experienced brain damage, and I think this book would have worked really well for explaining to her four-year-old schoolmates the concept of brain damage — and also the concept of rehabilitation. (Plus, it has a happy ending, for those of you worried that grandpa dies in the end.)

Publisher Comments:

This touching story about a young boy coping with his grandfather's disabilityhas long been one of Tomie dePaola's most popular picture books. Now, for the first time, it is available in a larger format, full-color edition—perfect for family sharing. Readers of all ages will love to watch Grandpa Bob teach Bobby to walk, and how Bobby returns the favor when Bob has a stroke, all in beautifully rich full color.

Synopsis:

When his grandfather suffers a stroke, Bobby teaches him to walk, just as hisgrandfather once taught him. Full color.
