Millhone's life is modest and familiar, though her love life, now featuring police detective Cheney Phillips, tends to be oddly remote. This 19th entry (after 2004's R Is for Ricochet) adopts a new convention: Millhone's customary intelligent and occasionally self-deprecating first-person reportage is interrupted by vignettes from the days surrounding the Fourth of July, 34 years earlier, when a hot-blooded young woman named Violet Sullivan disappeared. Violet's daughter, Daisy, who was seven at the time, hires Millhone to discover her mother's true fate. Synopsis:

Grafton has written novels, articles, short fiction, a screenplay, and numerous teleplays. She has also lectured on writing at colleges and conferences in Southern California.

S is for Silence – Sue Grafton: Thirty-five years ago, an abused and promiscuous wife disappears. Her dysfunctional daughter hires a detective to learn the truth. Is her mom alive or did her father kill her? Detective Kinsey Millhon begins a search into the past which proves for good train reading. The chapters are divided by the names and accounts of those interviewed and the story flashes from past to present. While an interesting story, the breaks in action help obsessive reads wait until their next “sitting” to continue the tale. 352 pages.

I have just about read all of Sue Grafton's books and it seems I can never put them down long enough to get anything done. She keeps my mind involved and interested til the end! What a great library of books to read and have by a wonderful author who has it all in her books.
