Because of Winn-Dixieby Kate Dicamillo
This book is so good! The story is narrated by lonely, motherless, 10-year-old Opal. It all begins when she adopts a stray dog and names him Winn-Dixie. It's a book full of charmingly flawed characters struggling to come to terms with how in life "the sweet and the sad are all mixed up together and how hard it is to separate them out." Kate DiCamillo could make a grocery list moving. I'm really excited to read her new book!
Synopses & Reviews
The Tiger Rising, 4 copies,
Thirty-five years ago, Konigsburg became the first and only author to win the Newbery Medal and a Newbery Honor in the same year--and she won these honors for the same book. This modern classic celebrates its 35th anniversary with a new edition featuring a new jacket and a new Afterword by the author. Illustrations.
Now in a digest-sized paperback, DiCamillo's beloved Newbery Honor book is the story of 10-year-old India Opal Buloni, who describes her first summer in the town of Naomi, Florida, and all the good things that happen to her because of her big ugly dog, Winn-Dixie.
