My daughters, ages 9 and 12, encouraged me to read this title over the summer. We were on a camping trip, I was out of reading material, and they were sure I'd like it. But it was a kid's book, right? I read a LOT of kids books, but I was on vacation and wanted a fun, easy, adult, entertaining read. So I put them off. I said I'd get to it. Then one night, while reading to each other before bedtime, the older girl began reading the first chapter aloud.

I was hooked.

"The Other Side of the Island" is a wonderfully escapist dystopian future for the pre-teen set that is equally entertaining to adults like me who are easily entertained. The story grabbed my attention early on, and held my attention even after we'd returned home to real life.
