About the Author

In Japan, Kishin Shinoyama is often compared to Nobuyoshi Araki. Shinoyama was born in 1940 in Tokyo and embarked on his career while studying in the Department of Photography at Nihon University. He was awarded the Advertising Photographers Association prize. After working for an advertising company, he started to work as a freelance photographer in 1968. His work is acclaimed for the portraits of celebrities, such as John Lennon and Yoko Ono, including the cover photograph of Double Fantasy. In his Gekisha and Shinorama series, he continues to capture the essence of the times using new forms of expression and new technologies. He has gained international acclaim, as witnessed by the huge success of the Tokyo Nude exhibition at Jousse Enterprise Gallery, Paris in 2009. Shigeo Goto is a prominent freelance editor whose works include Nude by Kishin (Schirmer/Mosel, 2009) and Mika Ninagawa (Rizzoli, 2010).
