Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

It’s 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another. Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day—July 15th—of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

Synopsis:

Big, absorbing, smart, fantastically readable . . . brilliant--Nick Hornby. This international bestseller that follows an unlikely couple for one decade--on the same day each year--is soon to be a major motion picture from Focus Features/ Random House Films.

I found the concept of writing a story over 20 years using the same day fascinating and truly enjoyed the book, until 2006!

One Day affected me more than any other book this year, so much so that I feel the punch in my gut when I reminisce on the conclusion. Nicholls's writing is just superb, and the story is an all-time favorite when it comes to studies of friendship, love, and character. I highly recommend!

Read this book before the movie comes out! They are bound to ruin it-- it is a funny, sweet, charming, smart story of 2 friends and their near misses as romantic partners. Part Nick Hornby, part Harry Met Sally, it traces the friendship of two college classmates and the ups and downs of their lives, separately and together. A hard book to put down and hard to forget.
