I hardly ever find young-adult books whose main character is a maddeningly popular girl — the girl with the hot jock boyfriend and the fiercely close but catty top-tier friends — and yet, here one is. Before I Fall is a fantastically authentic read (verging on character study, in the way Sam and her posse grow throughout) all bundled tightly in a warm cocoon of page-turning loveliness. This YA novel is going to go places. Mark my words.

Publisher Comments:

What if you had only one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?

Samantha Kingston has it all: the world's most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High—from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life.

Instead, it turns out to be her last.

Then she gets a second chance. Seven chances, in fact. Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.

Synopsis:

After she dies in a car crash, teenage Samantha Kingston relives the day of her death over and over again until, on the seventh day, she finally discovers a way to save herself. 75,000 first printing.

The main character of this book might at first seem like one of the mean girls, and this book could easily have gone down that route... the route of shallow series about popular Plastics like The Clique or Gossip Girl.
Instead, I found this to be a refreshingly honest read, the story of a girl who is trying to fine her own way in life and getting a last chance to try.
