Tracy Chevalier is one of my top 10 favourite authors. Girl with a Pearl Earring was the second of her books I've read and my expectations were high. I was not disappointed. I love how much I learned about 17th Century artists and how the mixed their paint, the grinding of the bones and how the paint gets it colour. Tracy has this way of 'showing' us instead of 'telling' us what she means when she writes. I appreciate that.
If you saw the movie and liked it, you will like the book a million times better! Griet is such a lovely character and through her eyes we learn much about the differences between the classes, quarantines and just Holland altogether. Chevalier is incredible.
