There is nothing like some clear cut science - told through the witty words of Ridley - to clarify one our greatest mysteries: Why the two sexes are the way they are. He tackles the problem from every angle while revealing some astonishing facts. By the end of it all, you may not necessarily like the Red Queen, but you will come to respect and appreciate her race against herself while wondering if she is aware that her destination remains undefined.

Science writing does not have to be dull and Matt Ridley proves it. This is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read of any genre. Highly recommended, 5 stars, A++!!!

Citing the Red Queen from "Through the Looking Glass, " who has to keep running to stay in the same place, Ridley demonstrates why sex is humanity's best strategy for outwitting its constantly mutating internal predators, and answers dozens of other riddles of human nature and culture.
