Janna Cawrse Esarey: IMG Powell's Q&A: Janna Cawrse Esarey

"I fell in love with Crosby, Stills, and Nash's song 'Southern Cross' when I was fifteen. By the time I got to college, 'I'm going to sail around the world someday' was sort of my pickup line." Continue »

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

A is for Always, that's where we embark...

Two children, treasure map in hand, and their pet gazelle sneak past their father, out of their house, and into a world beneath the city, where monsters and pirates roam.

Will they find the treasure? Will they make it out alive?

The Dangerous Alphabet is a tale of adventure, piracy, danger, and heroism told in twenty-six alphabetical lines — although even the alphabet is not to be relied upon here. A delightfully dangerous journey from national bestselling author Neil Gaiman and the monstrously talented Gris Grimly, The Dangerous Alphabet is sure to captivate and chill young readers.

Review:

"Gaiman and Grimley have combined forces to produce an acrid, gothic confection that bubbles with vitriol and wit." Booklist

Review:

"Grimly's gleefully ghoulish Tim Burton-esque line-and-watercolor illustrations are the star here....Fans of both creators' works will seek this title out, as will adults of the macabre persuasion." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"Neil Gaiman's idiosyncratic science fiction world is not to everyone's taste, but those to whom it appeals will love this alphabet book. They will find Grimly's sepia-toned drawings somewhat reminiscent of Edmund Gorey, a perfect fit with the sparse text." Children's Literature

Synopsis:

Bestselling author Neil Gaiman teams up with noted illustrator Gris Grimly for a tale of adventure, piracy, danger, and heroism told in 26 alphabetical lines — 13 short rhyming couplets — although even the alphabet is not to be relied upon here. Full color.
