This book is about three wealthy kids whose parents are killed in a house fire. They are sent to live with an abusive relative named Count Olaf whose main goal is to steal the children's enormous fortune left to them by their parents. At first he acts like a caring relative but later makes them do a lot of back-breaking chores, provides them with very little, and only one bed to sleep in. He also hangs the youngest child in a cage on top of a tower threatening to drop her if the children don’t comply with his demands. Count Olaf has an elaborate plan that unbenounced to the children involves them in taking over their estate and riches.

I would recommend this book to kids as young as 9 years old, because it’s helpful in defining words you may not know the meaning of. I would also recommend this book to people who like lots of suspense or cliff hangers because you're always on your toes not knowing what's going to happen next. Also if you like bad things happening to good people then this is the book for you.
