this book is amazing. i was required to read it for my English class, the teacher gave us more than a month to complete it but i finished it in a week! i really loved it, i didnt want to put to put it down. This book is very philosophical, it has great quotes. Santiago the main character, goes through a long journey, with the help of many, including the alchemist. Santiago finds true love, and realizes a lot through his long journey. i really recommend this book.

Santiago has had a reoccurring dream about leaving his simple life as a shepherd and traveling to Egypt's pyramids, whee he digs in certain spot for treasure. A dream interpreter tells him to go and see what he finds, and what the treasure might be. It seems like foolish dream, until the day he finds himself setting out on an adventure that will change his life and the way he thinks.
This story was amazing. The writing is simple and elegant, with a steady, slow-moving plot that will cause you to lose track of time as you are drawn into Santiago's adventures, wanderings and discoveries about himself. The story is very introverted and personal, fans of drama and action will need to look elsewhere. The characters, even the ones we barely know, feel so solid and realistic that it is hard to picture that they are mere figments of the author's imagination.

This book reaffirms that, although it is not easy, all of us have a path to discovering who we are truly meant to be. It reminds you to keep your heart open to all possibilities and to be courageous enough to explore them.

"Review"
by M. Scott Peck, M.D., author of The Road Less Traveled,
"A wise and inspiring fable about the pilgrimage that life should be."
"Review"
by Kirkus Reviews,
"[I]t's an interdenominational, transcendental, inspirational fable — in other words, a bag of wind....A message clings like ivy to every encounter; everyone, but everyone, has to put in their two cents' worth....The absence of characterization and overall blandness suggest authorship by a committee of self-improvement pundits."
"Review"
by Joseph Girzone, author of Joshua,
"Abeautiful story with a pointed message for every reader."
"Synopsis"
by Ingram,

"Synopsis"
by Harper Collins,
Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world, and this tenth anniversary edition, with a new introduction from the author, will only increase that following. This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasures found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.
