About the Author

Betty MacDonald (1908–1958) was the author of the beloved children's books about Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle:

  • Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle's Farm
The Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle stories were first told to her two daughters.

After Betty MacDonald's death, her daughter Anne MacDonald Canham found a never-before-published Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle story along with notes for other stories among her mother's possessions. This was the beginning of Happy Birthday, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, the first new Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle book in fifty years.

This is a wonderful little book that was read to me as a child, 50 years ago, and still holds its charm as I read it to my grandchildren. Mrs. PiggleWiggle is an expert in childpsychology in a fun way, utilizing practices that psychologists later would call new. A truly delightful book, as are her others in this series.

Yay for Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle! This one features "The Slow-Eater Tiny-Bite-Taker," which is one of my all-time favorites.
