Publisher Comments:

It happens just like that, in the blink of an eye. An older sister has a mental breakdown and has to be hospitalized. A younger sister is left behind to cope with a family torn apart by grief and friends who turn their backs on her. But worst of all is the loss of her big sister, her confidante, her best friend, who has gone someplace no one can reach.

In the tradition of The Bell Jar, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, and Lisa, Bright and Dark comes this haunting first book told in poems, and based on the true story of the author's life.

sonya sones has always been a favorite author of mine
but when i read this book it just made me love her even more
and the fact that this actually happened to her makes her all the more amazing
at thirteen her sister needs to be institutionalized and she remains strong and loving with her sister
she ignores what all her "friends" say about her.
and becomes even stronger by the end of the book
i deffinately reccomend reading this book!
it will make you laugh, cry, and want to hug your sister and never let go.
i know i did. =)

Stop Pretending by Sonya Sones is set in a mental hospital. The main characters sister stays in the white room with bars that cover the windows so there are no escapes. As her sister is transported to the hospital Cookie remains at her house with her mother and father. Those are the main characters of this thrilling book. Through this book cookie try’s to get through with the comments of people talking about her sister. Her mother on the other hand is said that she is going through depression. Her dad has just ignored the situation and is holding it very well. The plot of Stop Pretending is that cookie want to prove that her sister is not crazy and that she should be the one in the hospital and stays with that through out the book. She also wants her life to be like her friends and not like it is know. This all starts in the beginning of the story when cookies sister has a mental breakdown. It then leads for only one visit each day, which may not happen. Even though it’s a one-hour visit each day it brings the family closer and closer as it goes on. The writer is trying to tell us to be thankful for our health and for everything that we have even if it’s not a lot. This book was well written and has a good theme for all ages.

I really only made this account to comment on this book.

I loved this book, it caught my eye, just the cover. I found it in my school when I was sopposed to be looking for a book from the seventies, but when I came across it there was just something about it. So I took it.

I had been reading it, I finished it in about two days over the course of school when I had free time in classes. I feel in love with the first page, and I couldn't stop reading.

I love short poem books, or whatever they're called. I like to find the meaning in the poems on every page, pick out the metaphores, or similies.

Ever since I read this, I have been reading countless other books like it.

I just wanted to share with everyone how wonderful and life changing this book can be.
