Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In Boy, Roald Dahl recounts his days as a child growing up in England. From his years as a prankster at boarding school to his envious position as a chocolate tester for Cadbury's, Roald Dahl's boyhood was as full of excitement and the unexpected as are his world-famous, best-selling books. Packed with anecdotes? some funny, some painful, all interesting? this is a book that's sure to please.

Review:

"[T]he boyhood antics of this world famous and best-selling author provides a glimpse into where he got some of the plot ideas and inspirations for his most popular books." School Library Journal

Review:

"Teenage Dahl fans will be enthralled by his autobiographical stories, which...have the drama and macabre humor of his fiction...as bright and bizarre, as daring and delightful as any made-up adventure he ever described." Booklist

This book is as rich as Cadburys Choclate. A slender read of real life tales of a London boarding school boyhood that are as fascinating and funny for grownups, (possibly more so!) and children alike.
Dahl simply writes, just as he might speak if you were lucky enough to be sitting across a cup of tea from him.
The squel to Boy is an equally delightful book titled Going Solo, Dahl's memoirs of flying as a WWII pilot.
This would be a great gift for a child of 9 and above.

this book is touching, the way that roald decribes his childhood and beyond is spetacular. The way he coped with so many deaths in so little time and how he felt int he voarding school. This a the best book ive read ina long time.

I use this as a read aloud in middle school. The stories are short, focused, and very appealing to kids and adults. You will tremble with anticipation and quiver with laughter.
