Synopses & Reviews

Synopsis:

Myra Breckinridge is a gay man who has had a sex-change operation. She travels to California to teach at a drama school and write about 1940s movie stars. The character of Myra allows Vidal all sorts of political fun with sexual stereotypes; he also uses alternating narrators to tell Myra's story. In "Myron", Vidal continues the story by having Myra transport back to 1948, reverting to her masculine self in the process, where Myron finds himself on the set of a B-movie.
