Although this book may be presumed to be fit for young adults, rather than a more adult audience, I was refreshed to find a novel that depicted gay characters in a relatively happy and secure life. Usually gay fiction depicts a very sad, potentially dangerous plot where the characters are constantly overcoming adversity, or attempting to find shreds of acceptance somewhere in their otherwise pathetic lives. John Green has always been good at casting his gay characters in a positive light, allowing the overarching themes of the human experience to shine through. "Will Grayson, Will Grayson," chronicles the lives of two high school boys, who are very different, but find value in the difference of the other. The friendship portrayed in the novel fosters hope for the reader. If you're looking for a very happy ending, and characters you can't help but become attached to, this is definitely a book to read.

Two Will Graysons meet in a porn shop.

This book is all about acceptance, truth, and love. Even if the truth is tough or the love hurts sometimes. Written in alternating perspectives of both Will Graysons to tell the story of how they met and how their lives forever changed on that lonely night. I love how John Green and David Levithan detailed so many different types of relationships in this book--and made them realistic. It was heartfelt, at times sad, at times happy.

"Will Grayson, Will Grayson" is the perfect Young Adult novel. It's interesting, funny, moving, tragic and compelling. I couldn't put it down and I read it in one night. The premise itself is interesting. Both authors decided on a name and each would write alternating chapters about different characters with the same name and at some point they meet. I feared this could be just a gimmick but from the first chapters I was persuaded that this was a real story of two people connected by more than their names. The stories are different in style and tone. Both characters have a specific voice as do the secondary characters that are pulled in and held in the orbit of the two parallel stars. I would recommend this for teens and adults alike. The story is harks of the depression and anxiety that so many teens have in their youth and at times though heartbreaking rewards the reader with an affirmation of resilience and strength. After reading this novel, you quickly realize that though the details maybe slightly different this is everyone's story. We are all named Will Grayson.
