This is a darling story about a bright young girl who has trouble fitting into the typical mold. There are several very funny parts and yes, it does tug at the heart strings, but I certainly wouldn't call it depressing. Thought provoking maybe. I like that it isn't saccharine sweet as so many children's books are. Ant comes across a real girl facing the kind of challenges children might actually face at her age.

If your mom ignores you and you have to lie to get attention, then I guess you would like this book.... whatever... bleh. Unremarkable despite the title. Pretty depressing, go sit in a corner and read this book. Hate sounding like a cynic, and wish I had better words, but I've read a lot of books. I guess I'm pretty hard to impress.
