If you are interested in European history, and especially post World War 11 history, you will learn so much from this huge and compelling book. It touches upon all aspects - political, cultural, intellectual - of that history and ranges across the entire region. In the process it whets your appetite to read much more.

Tony Judt has given us a truly monumental account of events in Europe since the end of the second world war. No one interested in this period should overlook it. I found it valuable on many levels but notably because it clarifies much that was inaccurately reported at the time.

Postwar is a fascinating account of European history between 1945 and 2005. Tony Judt masterfully weaves together a narrative of a time in world history that is as complicated as it is immediately relevant to the world we live in today.

"Synopsis" by , In this magnificent, unprecedented history of postwar Europe, esteemed historian Judt covers 34 countries across 60 years in a single integrated narrative, using a great deal of material from newly available sources.
"Synopsis" by , Tony Judt's POSTWAR is an unprecedented accomplishment: the first truly European history of contemporary Europe, from Lisbon to Leningrad, based on research in six languages, covering thirty-four countries across sixty years in a single integrated narrative, using a great deal of material from newly available sources.
