Among other things, this book is way better than the movie.

I saw the film before I read the book, which is rare for me since I almost always read the book first and save the movie for later. In this case, I was scarcely aware of Ian Mcewan's work before seeing this film, but I loved it so much that I couldn't wait to get the book! The book did not disappoint; to the contrary, as usually happens, it far outdid the movie. In fact, I have ordered two more books by Mcewan and I cannot wait to read them! His page-turning narration and plot development, along with his complex character development, keep the reader enthralled from beginning to end.

"Staff Pick" by ,

A young girl sees her older sister and a man in a situation she doesn't understand, and subsequently makes an accusation that changes the course of all three lives. This is a study of a life-long search for forgiveness and atonement. McEwan is at his best here. An amazing and excellent book!

"Publishers Weekly Review" by , "McEwan at his most closely observed and psychologically penetrating, and his most sweeping and expansive....With each book McEwan ranges wider, and his powers have never been more fully in evidence than here." Publishers Weekly
"Review" by , "A beautiful and majestic fictional panorama."

John Updike, The New Yorker

"Review" by , "Moving deftly between styles, this is a compelling exploration of guilt and the struggle for forgiveness."
"Review" by , "A beautiful and majestic fictional panorama."
"Review" by , "Not since the 19th century has a writer stepped in and out of his characters' minds with such unfettered confidence."
"Review" by , "No one now writing fiction in the English language surpasses Ian McEwan."
