Enjoyable and touching memoir. We all have bad days, but Franz Wisner seemed to be living a charmed, high-rolling life. Until his fiancee left him and he was demoted from his high-powered job. He invites his brother to join him on his prepaid "honeymoon." They reclaim the relationship that had faded away since youth and end up extending the honeymoon to traveling around the world. Uplifting!

I recently read Franz Wisner's Honeymoon with My Brother: A Memoir and it was the final kick in driving me over the edge in how I travel. Having lived in Europe for most of a decade, having traveled in the Mid-East, in Africa, Asia and throughout Western, Central and Eastern Europe, generally on the cheap (backpacks, hostels, camping) I've been moving from tourist making pilgrimages to the sites and sights that have filled my imaginations since childhood to now desiring to be more of a traveler, more in search of experiences and understanding.

I am envious of Franz and Kurt's, the brothers, relationship. Finding a good traveling companion is a rare and cherished thing, adding to that the discovery of the brothers' growing friendship is inspiring. This story of the brothers and their evolution as travelers is a great read and a catalyst for further travel.

This is an excellent travel memoir, funny and often poignant. It is insightful and rereadable. It is a book to loan only with the promise of return, and it is a great book to give to anyone infected by wanderlust.

This is a very uplifting book about two brothers who grew up and apart and decide to reclaim their relationship after one's fiancee' canceled their wedding just days before the wedding. Franz and his brother Kurt take a journey in this book that is absolutely inspirational for people who need to reconnect with lost loved ones. I recommended this book to several people who also enjoyed it. I think that anyone who reads this book will take away a feeling of hope and enjoyment.

"Publishers Weekly Review" by , "Wisner's narrative style is occasionally comic, but he can be serious, too....The brothers' rekindled bond makes this memoir deeply moving." Publishers Weekly
"Review" by , "Wisner's accounts of a Balinese cockfight or Trinidad's Carnival do what good travel writing should: make you want to be right then and there. And while his obligatory life-lesson passages are undeniably cheesy, they are never less than sincere."
"Review" by , "Sandwiched between the chuckles are letters to their grandmother and short, pointed chapters on best trip advice....Humorous and heartening."
"Synopsis" by ,
This is the true story of Franz Wisner, a man who thought he had it all- a high profile career and the fiancée of his dreams- when suddenly, his life turned upside down. Just days before they were to be married, his fiancée called off the wedding. Luckily, his large support network of family and friends wouldn't let him succumb to his misery. They decided Franz should have a wedding and a honeymoon anyway- there just wouldn't be a bride at the ceremony, and Franz' travel companion would be his brother, Kurt.

During the "honeymoon," Franz reconnected with his brother and began to look at his life with newfound perspective. The brothers decided to leave their old lives behind them. They quit their jobs, sold all their possessions, and traveled around the world, visiting fifty-three countries for the next two years. In Honeymoon With My Brother, Franz recounts this remarkable journey, during which he turned his heartbreak into an opportunity to learn about himself, the world, and the brother he hardly knew.
