Jane is a retelling of the classic tale Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. While I give it kudos for being one of the few re-tellings out there I have to give it a poor rating.
Jane tells the story of 19 year old Jane who after loosing her parents and struggling to stay in school, takes up the job as a nanny for an aging rock star. Adventure and romance ensues yes but as a modern retelling it falls flat. The author tried really hard to stay true to the original, to the point of plagiarism in my opinion. At one point, a scene in the book was nearly word for word as the original.

The only thing that made this modern is the fact that its set in our time period. There are a few f bombs thrown in as well, as well as a sex scene that didn't go into graphic detail as some authors do. The romance itself feels forced and holds nothing to the true version of the tale. I could go on about the inconsistency of modern times with this book.

Honestly I'd give this book one star if it wasn't for the fact its one of the rare retellings and the cover is nice. For those that loved the classic, stick with the classic and pass this book up. Jane Eyre was a revolutionary character, independent and self assured. Whereas our modern Jane seems nothing more than obsessed teenager.

JANE was a wonderful book taken from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
We replace a nineteen year old college student, and an aged Rockstar, and thus we are taken into this new rendition of a favorite past book of mine, Jane Eyer.
I loved the writing in this book as I loved these new models of our old favorite characters. The dialog was great and their interactions with each other was perfect for the book.
I loved how they took this old theme and brought it to life for a new era.
I loved how these new characters had all these thoughts and view and how as the story progressed you see these underlying feeling exposed.
I was so happy to read Jane. It really made my night the day I finished it.
This book really moved me in its writing and its new breath of life in its characters.
Thank you April Linder for recreating this timeless world for me into this great new light. I bet now my teens will want to read it

Despite her upbringing-- a disapproving, distant mother who admitted Jane "had been a mistake," a loving though ineffective father, an abusive brother, and a self-absorbed, spoiled sister, Jane Moore is strong, practical and independent. Or perhaps it is because of her upbringing. After Jane's parents die in an accident, she is no longer able to afford college and drops out to earn a living. She accepts a position as nanny to the daughter of rock legend Nico Rathburn, and against her better judgement, soon finds herself attracted to her magnetic, brooding, and significantly older employer. This updated version of Jane Eyre makes for an enjoyable read and will make many readers eager to read (or re-read) Bronte's original. Recommended for Young Adults as well as adults. *FYI-- not a totally "innocent" read-- there is some sex in the book.
