Fascinating first book in an amazing fantasy series set in ancient Japan. The characters are mesmerizing and the setting is rich and detailed. Across the Nightingale Floor is so beautifully written. It pulls you into a different world, a different century, a different culture. I read this, loved it, bought the other 3 books in the series--and enjoyed every word of each.
