Great read and brought me up to speed with what is happening with the global economies. I was pretty clueless prior. So, if you're clueless and need a quick catch up, this book does a good job of giving you the quick-and-dirty lowdown so you can at least listen intelligently.

Another very readable book by Lewis. He has a knack for making even the most complex information understandable to 'average' humans. Although I am a news junkie and have read a lot about the European and US financial mess, I learned a few things from this book. It's a quick read and I think everyone should do what they can to understand what is going on in the world. It's a mess - that's for sure. Scary!

Not the most thorough of books on the past and pending financial crisis, but very eye-opening vis-a-vis former Governor Arnold and the pension bankruptcy that municipalities through California and the US face...Michael Lewis is usually ahead of the curve and this book is no exception. It sounds funny to say but definitely a financial "page turner"!

Dr. Rico, December 29, 2011 (view all comments by Dr. Rico)
An insightful and funny tour of how several European nations ensnared themselves in financial chaos. Lewis shows that the financial crisis of 2006- manifested itself in different ways in different nations but had common roots in the global availability of easy credit. And when he turns his eyes on California, it becomes clear that the United States is headed for its own kind of financial disaster, thanks to a political system that does nothing to correct the worst tendencies of its citizens (and probably exacerbates them instead). Lewis adds more than his usual dose of humor to his characteristically clear explanations. This book was enormously enjoyable to read, even though thinking about its ideas continues to frighten me long after I put it down.
