Robert Stone is the author of A Flag Sunrise, Children of the Light, and Outerbridge Reach. He won the National Book Award for Dog Soldiers and the Faulkner Foundation Award for A Hall of Mirrors. He lives in Connecticut.

This book does a very good job of portraying the piquant yet ripped-up zeitgeist of the early 1970s. And, it does so within a compelling narrative framework. This is a blood-and-noir drenched story of violence, drugs, naivete and desperation that's sort of like a Tarantino film but amped up to significantly higher level by Stone's judicious inclusion of meaningful social commentary and even a little bit of serious philosophical thought.
