These comments reported by Leslie reflect the swirl of information that surrounds all of us, including the young students. The students soak it in, reflect on it and respond with their own special take, sometimes revealing that they are more tuned in to what is going on than we give them credit for. The comments are by turns humorous, poignant, and scary. Leslie has ably captured the gems that come from her students.

I love absurd humor and the wisdom that can be found in it. Not to mention the giggle fits I get! Preschool Gems is perfect for that goofy vehicle for poignant thoughts! Such raw material, such source material! It's a basic writers tactic to listen to the world around you & pull from conversations and sights seen. Leslie McCollum has done just that. This book could also be marketed as a writing or drawing prompt exercise book! Major props to a sharply curated book of gems!

Not since Bill Cosby has anyone so poignantly captured the hearts and minds of children in their own words. Three cheers to Leslie for having the awareness and foresight to capture and document such wonderfully charming gems. This book will not only leave you giggling, but it will remind you of the powerful and introspective minds of our children. This is definitely a book worth buying and gifting to others.

this concept is absolutely brilliant. not only a hilarious look into the random ideas that come out of children's brains, but a great basis for imaginative, philosophical discussion for any age. ponder these, for example:

"I have to go to the doctor's because I have a broken heart."
"At home I was spyin' on my toys to see if they were real or fake."
"A baby that's 42 doesn't make any sense."
"This dragon's gonna go do taxes." "
My thumb is called Andre."
"They called me dude at the exact moment that I didn't want to be called dude."

I love that this became a book. I always followed it on Twitter, but was unable to share it with people that don't live online. Now I can have it around the house to entertain everyone that comes over!
