A riveting fantasy that takes off from the start and never lets you go. Recommended by the likes of Tamora Pierce and Cornelia Funke the book has elements of humor, exciting battle scenes, and encounters which will leave the reader to sometimes question whether a character is good or evil. A promising start for a great trilogy.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

After the death of her beloved father, headstrong princess Thirrin Freer Strong-In-The-Arm becomes warrior queen of her homeland, Icemark, defending it from a formidable invader. Despite Thirrin's bravery and the support of Oskan, the Witch's son, the task proves more difficult than Thirrin ever dreamed. She must assemble a force to rival her opponent. And, in the chill winter of Icemark, she only has until spring to unite the strange beasts and frightening creatures who live just outside her country. Ultimately, it is Thirrin's vision and determination that will see her through to victory.

Review:

"[I]n the presently crowded field of fantasies, [Cry Of The Icemark] will struggle to stand out." School Library Journal

Review:

"[F]or readers whose imaginations are stirred by clashes of pike and saber and lusty cries of "Blood! Blast! And Fire!" this extravagant first novel...offers ample rewards." Booklist
