I absolutely love this book. I have read it at least 20 times in the past 7 years. It is gorgeous and every time I read it, I understand something new. This book touches my heart and it still makes me cry. This is one of my absolute favorite books.

A book that can be read at any age to get a different perspective. I wish I had read it when I was younger. My son read it in school and understood things I missed. I will read it when I am older. A book for the whole family to read and discuss.

I wish I would have read this in middle school or high school! It's a quick read and I found myself wanting it to be longer and dive more deeply into the implications of the "community" and the life that is lead, but then again, it is a young adult book, and for that purpose, I think would definitely serve the purpose of raising questions in a 15 year olds head. I could imagine this could spur lively discussions in a classroom and would encourage young adults, especially, to read it.

In this book Lois Lowry shows you the importance of you choices and the freedom to feel. You realize how important your emotions are and everyone else around you. A wonderful book and a must have for any library collection.

by Random House,
Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear of pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
