This is such a cute book. The story of Billy and his two hound dogs never gets old. My mother gave this to me after we got a bluetick coonhound, and I was so glad. It made me cry, laugh, and root for the main character and his dogs as they enter contests, endure hardships, and learn from their mistakes. This is a great read for kids that love animals, and adults, too. You won't forget this classic children's story, and it will make you want to have your own Old Dan and Little Ann to be there for you.

The best boy/dog book after "My Dog Skip."

And really, is there anything more endearing that a boy with a dog? Well, yes: a boy with two dogs.

Add the country vistas and sounds, plus the love of Billy's family, and you have a swift read that fills your heart.

Brings back some of my fondest memories -- of hiking with my beagle through the mountains. Nothing like that feeling of freedom. I recall it vividly, as does Billy from beginning to end.

I cant belive how much courage and triuph can go into a book and you cant count how many are in this one, its one of the very most wonderful book that i have read in my life time. I can not wait to read more books that Wilson Rawls has published!

I first heard of this book in the fourth grade when my teacher read it to the class. I was the only one other than her who cried at the end. Thisis my favorite book of all time. I've read it like ten times since the fourth grade and I cry every time. I love it.
