Publisher Comments:

Harriet M. Welsch is a spy. In her notebook, she writes down everything she knows about everyone, even her classmates and her best friends. Then Harriet loses track of her notebook, and it ends up in the wrong hands. Before she can stop them, her friends have read the always truthful, sometimes awful things she?s written about each of them. Will Harriet find a way to put her life and her friendships back together?

A classic that I first read at age 11 and have read countless times since, even as an adult with a 12 year old of my own. With the experience and knowledge of an adult, I read this book in a different way. I see Harriet as a bit of a groundbreaking for 1965 children's literature. There's nothing lady-like or frothy about Harriet. She's butch and independent and confident and has dreams and ambitions of her own. I often wonder what Harriet would be like as a 50-something adult today. A great read!
