I LOVED THIS BOOK! I have been plagued by depression for years(over 20). It was completely beyond my comprehension that "I" could control my thoughts, that "I" caused my depression by allowing my thoughts to rum amuck in my mind! I have read dozens of self help books and been put on anti-depressants but NOTHING helped me as much and as quickly as The Battlefield Of The Mind! I have had 1 bad day since I finished reading this book! I thank GOD every day for putting it in my path. Joyce Meyer helped me win the battle. I have recommended this book to every person that I know and will continue to do so. I want to shout it from the roof tops! I never thought there would be a light at the end of my tunnel much less that I would see it but not only did I see it but I made it through it because of this book! She writes in a way that people can understand. She describes real life events and she uses the Bible to bring everything into perspective! This book has the ability to save lives. I know because it saved mine!
First to know, this is a religious-based book. The author, Joyce Meyer, is a popular Christian author and speaker. Her television and radio programs air in many languages and countries. She has also written many books on Christianity, this being one of the more popular.
Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind is about solving some of the common problems we all encounter in life, such as depression, anger, or worry, by getting you to examine the way you think about things, or as the book puts it, "you need to begin to think about what you are thinking about." And that's basically the goal of the whole book.
Other major points include:
-our actions are a direct result of our thoughts.
-thoughts take place in your mind, so your mind is in essence "the battlefield"
-if you have a negative mind, you will have a negative life
-on the other hand, if you renew you mind according to God's Word, you will have a positive life
Much of the book is devoted to getting the reader to change their thinking and discusses how to tear down the "strongholds" that the devil tries to set up in the mind. Joyce uses parables and many personal examples along the way- which makes the book very interesting to read.
In sum, if you're stuck in a rut for any number of reasons, and are looking for a book with a religious tone to help you out- I think its a good choice. Also recommend "Finding Happiness in a Frustrating World". Peace.
