When I was in grad school, a teacher told our workshop that if a published novel is 300 pages, the writer had to generate 1,200 along the way. I... Continue »

A wonderful read, and especially wonderful characters. We learn so much about the main character and his mind.

This book is brilliant. As a stepparent to an autistic child, for some reason I have a knee-jerk reaction about "autistic" books: I don't read them. I made an exception for this one and I'm SO glad that I did. In addition to being a quick, captivating and entertaining read, this book fundamentally changed my perspective about religion and I can honestly say I've never read a novel that's impacted me in this unexpected way. And Marcelo Sandoval is one character that you will remember long after you finish reading the book. An amazing accomplishment from an amazing writer. Don't miss this book. It may be marketed as YA, but it is a book for everyone.

"Synopsis" by , Reminiscent of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" in the intensity and purity of its voice, this extraordinary novel challenges the boundaries of autism. It is a love story, a legal drama, and a celebration of the music each of us hears inside.
"Synopsis" by ,
A contemporary YA drama about a young man suffering from schizophreniform disorder, who falls into a love triangle with a girl in his class . . . and a girl in his head.

"Synopsis" by ,
“A well-written, taut, and empathetic novel that provides readers with an unnerving vicarious experience.”—SLJ

Fourteen-year-old Cameron Galloway of Lexington, Washington, understands that he has schizophreniform disorder and needs to take pills to quiet the voices in his head. But he likes the voices, especially the gentle, encouraging voice of The Girl. Conflicted, he turns to his friend Nina Savage, who is clinically depressed and can relate to his horror of the numbing effects of medication. They make a pact to ditch the pills. At first they feel triumphant, but soon Camerons untreated mind goes haywire—to disastrous effect.

"Synopsis" by ,
The paperback edition of one of the most acclaimed novels of the year — a love story and legal drama that received five starred reviews and multiple honors.

Marcelo Sandoval hears music no one else can hear--part of the autism-like impairment no doctor has been able to identify--and he's always attended a special school where his differences have been protected. But the summer after his junior year, his father demands that Marcelo work in his law firm's mailroom in order to experience "the real world."
