"There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark's Eve," Neeve said. "Either you're his true love... or you killed him."

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them — not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He has it all — family money, good looks, devoted friends — but he's looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we've never been before.

The book an it's characters was amazing! Blue an her crazy, loving, disfunctionally perfect family makes all the crazy every family goes though seem wonderfully normal. Blue as a psychics daughter is used to the strange but learning that she enhanceses all supernatural things helps make Seneca of all the crazy that happens in this book. Gansey is a boy well beyond his age and us the amazing glue that hold his band of unique friends together an makes them more as a collected whole then the wonderful peices they are separate. Ronan is hard edged but so full of surprised and is fiercely loyal to those who are around him, making him a wonderful character even if he is an ass. Noah is the friend who, while quite an frogetable in a situation is important to all who know him an love him. Adam, while an undisputed part of the group must work threw many personal issues before he's as wonderfully love able as many of the rest of the group. Over all this book is sad, intriguing, and wonderfully funny and I can't wait to see where it's headed :)

Wow. I absolutely loved this!!! I've read, and really liked, Stiefvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, but The Raven Boys far surpasses any of the books in that trilogy for me. Stiefvater's unique and at times poetic writing is at it's best in this. The story moves along at a nice clip and I enjoyed every moment reading it. I was so entertained by all of the characters that I can't even pick a favorite; they all play a part in the brilliance of the story. This is magical, mysterious, imaginative, and unexpected. I'm rarely surprised by a plot turn in a book, but Stiefvater threw multiple twists in this that I never saw coming. I don't even want to contemplate how long it will be before the next book in the Raven Cycle is released. While I'm waiting, I'll be reading The Scorpio Races and re-reading this. Awesome book! 5 stars.

Basically this: THE RAVEN BOYS is a very good book. Yes, it's the first in a quartet, and no, the second book isn't out yet, but Maggie Stiefvater is an author worth trusting. (Heck, any author who can completely convince me of the existence of monster faery horses - THE SCORPIO RACES - is an author worth trusting.) And, for all this book's title suggests that it's about a group of boys, the story contains a really beautiful community of women, the kind that left me wanting to share this book with my women friends for that reason alone. I wouldn't let the somewhat improbable-seeming premise deter you (King Arthur? In Virginia??) - for me, anyway, Stiefvater made it work so well I want to tromp around in the woods myself and find some ley-lines. I look forward to Book 2.
