This is my all time favorite novel. Tom Robbins is a quirky, unconventional genius. There are so many hidden gems and nuggets of wisdom in this book. It is at times poignant, laugh out loud hilarious, and smart. It is always smart. True to Robbins' style it is unique in it's own right. And as a redhead, I love that "the trouble with redheads" is explored in this book. I first read it in my teens and it has stuck with me up to my mid 20s, and is something I will one day pass down to my own children when they are of age.

The question, "What makes love stay?" In attempting an answer we learn of the significance of the pyramids on a pack of Camel cigarettes, why red-heads are so fiery, and what, exactly, Argon has to do with everything. Alas, we never do find out what happened to the golden ball. I wish I could memorize the book so that I could then throw it at all those guys who think they're so enlightened and philisophical.

This book is an example of Tom Robbins' surprising, bizarre ideas, which make completely logical sense when you are reading, but sound impossible when you try to explain the plot to a friend. I find that quoting this book is far too easy to do--the concepts are easily applied to everyday life and conversation, and Robbins always makes me smile.
