This book was full of laughter in hard times. Zip was so blunt and mischievous but you just loved her.

A Girl Named Zippy was such a joy to read and felt truly original to me. Here's to writing an excellent book that isn't about a traumatic or disturbing story line. It was an amazing read because Haven Kimmel writes in the voice of a kid mind. I mean, it's the first book that ever resonated with my mostly forgotten childhood memory - as if I had experienced her experiences and had thought her thoughts. And to top it off, I laughed out loud many times. So glad I read this book.

A great look back at growing up in small-town America.

Like Truman Capote, Haven Kimmel captures the heartbreaking beauty in small details in this laugh-out-loud memoir of one family in one very small Indiana town. After reading this, read the follow-up "She Got Up Off the Couch" to understand the sadness that runs through Kimmel's works like an almost invisible thread.

I loved this book- I have read it twice - and recommend it to everyone. It is laugh out loud funny, about the recollections of a young girl growiing up in a small town in Indiana in and her perceptions of her life and her family.
