For those of us with limited imagination, Mary Adams just opened the door! The Party Dress book includes a pattern for only one dress, but with oh so many ways to adapt it. This dress pattern is a timeless design. There are photos of at least 50 beautiful dresses in the book; all using the same pattern. Adams thoughtfully details useful techniques and offers inspiring discussion on color/fabric ideas. The detailed instructions read easily and seem to be spot on.
This book would make a great gift for anyone who likes to sew and loves a good dress. It's a quick read if you can stop goggling at the fantastic photos.

A fun read. Mary Adams opened her dress shop in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the early '80s. Her shop offered a nice escape from the battered surroundings making the world a more beautiful place one dress at a time. She writes a bit about the the times and events that have influenced changes in fashion -- not just her own designs but fashion in general-- and has a quirky take on things. And her dresses are like wearable cupcakes.

Mary Adams is my new goddess. The Party Dress Book is the most knock-out book on pretty dresses that I've seen in awhile, and certainly the best guide on how to sew them. While this isn't for the beginner, Adams shows, step by step, how to sew the basics of these beautiful dresses so that you can recreate her style after your own fashion. If you like flirty and fun dresses, this book will make you very happy.
