Writers use their craft to sort through the confusion of their lives. Annette White-Parks displays a rare courage in telling her story as a teen mother and a later as a working grandmother. Her story is as much about the choices she made and the consequences they have continued to reap as it is the characters she so vividly portrays. My Butterfly Girl is a compelling work. I am reluctant to call it a page-turner because the phrase connotes a more commercial venture than this. But reader beware, once you have plunged into this story where love battles with addictions, abuse, and mental illness, you will be hard pressed to stop until you have reached the last page.
