Synopsis:

With the Scottish War for Independence raging, a young laird heads to the Scottish/English border to avenge his father's brutal murder. After kidnapping his enemy's daughter, he whisks her away to his Highland castle, where they wage their own war - of strong wills and growing emotions - as strife intensifies between their countries. Seemingly doomed by their differences, can two people find happiness in each other's arms with such enormous odds stacked against them - or is theirs a love to last through the ages? "A winner in the 2004 Reader's and Bookseller's Best - Published Laurie's"

What a pleasure to read Highland Wishes. Not only was it a lovely, long historical--and how many long historicals are out there--but the romance intertwined with history was enjoyable as well.
The heroine, Victoria, and the hero, Grant, are two characters that you come to like. She's English, he's a Scot, and it's a troubled time between the two nations. Still, you know Grant and Victoria belong together. How they come together, fall in love and triumph over their common enemies is what makes Ms Burroughs story so well thought out.

Wow...what a tremendous read!

Leanne Burroughs? Highland Wishes far surpassed my highest expectations for any romance novel. Victoria Blackstone, a real woman who deals with more than her fair share of troubles, abuse and, finally, love, grabbed me as a woman who would stand up and fight for what and who she wants, using a kind, forgiving and tireless heart and spirit to accomplish her goals. Grant Drummond, a man?s man in every way, is not only handsome and virile, but a man who has respect, admiration and a big heart. He proves, over and over, that love is not simply declared once and forgotten, it is lived and proven every day, in many, many ways. It is said that war is hell, but falling in love amidst gruesome battles, injury and death is even more treacherous, although Tori and Grant finally find Heaven amongst the fighting, turmoil and uncertainty of late Thirteen Century Scotland.

Burroughs? characters are not merely fictional acquaintances, they are now dear friends who will live in my memory forever. Reading this novel was like watching an edge-of-your-seat movie...it made me cry in anger and happiness, inspired me to believe the best in others and I had to stop and clap in sheer pleasure more than once. Fabulously crafted, masterfully told and written like one who had lived in Castle Drummond, instead of one who has only been there in spirit, heart and pen, Leanne Burroughs has earned her place in the tomes of exceptional historical romance novels.

?Highland Wishes? is without a doubt one of the best historical novels I?ve had the privilege to read in a long while. Ms. Burroughs has taken great care in her research of the time period and location and as a result the reader is in for a fulfilling read that will haunt them long after the final page has been read.

Victoria Blackstone has given up the hope of ever finding someone who will want her and love her for herself. Her father is a cruel man and her only solace comes from her loving grandmother and even she can?t stop the plans Victoria?s father has set in motion. Tory takes her fate into her own hands?or at least for a brief moment and time she does. Soon she finds herself taken from her father?s manor home by Scottish Laird Grant Drummond. Her life is about to change and she?s about to be swept into the turbulent time that all Highlanders are about to face. With a war on the horizon with the British King and her own confused feeling for the strong Highlander that has captured her, will Victoria be able to put aside her dreams of finding a love that surpasses time or will these dreams be nothing more than Highland wishes?

Grant and Victoria are characters the reader will likely never forget. Ms. Burroughs has penned a wonderfully epic historical romance that will engage the reader from the first page. This sweeping story will take you back to a long forgotten time where men fought hard and loved hard and where honor and strength truly meant something. Ms. Burroughs is a gifted storyteller and one I highly recommend. Her stories are truly gifts to the lucky reader who picks them up.
