I received this book from a relative and I think it sat on the shelf for almost a year before I read it. It was the first mystery I've ever read and I was eternally hooked! Henning Mankell is a masterful and intelligent writer and Kurt Wallender an untterly human protagonist as he unravels the web of crime. A simple but brutal murder leads Wallender through an assasination plot and international intrigue matched perfectly by the personal struggles of Wallender and the wintry physical/psychological backdrop of a corner of Sweden. I guarantee you will find it hard to put down!
Inspector Kurt Wallander's look into the execution-style murder of a Swedish housewife leads to an investigation of international scope and harrowing consequences, involving a plot to assassinate Nelson Mandela.
