The American Scream (Shade the Changing Man, Vol. 1)by Peter Milligan
"This week, I was struck by the last line of a weighty essay by French theorist Thierry Groensteen. While discussing comic book's relationship with childhood, he admits that this kind of critical writing might be "...doing nothing more than holding out our hands to the kids we used to be." In that same time-travelling spirit, then, I'd like to reach out to my adolescent self. He thought that the meaning of life was contained within his latest haircut, too. If he's still living inside me, like Shade's subconscious serial killer, he'd want me to say thanks for five years of mad stories that once meant the world to him." Synopses & Reviews
An alien from the Meta dimension, Shade has escaped to Earth to combat forces of insanity that have accidentally been let loose from his universe. Equipped with a madness vest that allows him to manipulate reality, the Changing Man arrives on his new planet and quickly appropriates the body of a maniacal serial killer to act as a human vessel for his mission.
Joined by Kathy George, the 23-year-old daughter of two of his previous ego's victims, Shade begins his task by journeying into America's collective unconscious to conquer the destructive force known as the The American Scream. Please note: This title is suggested for mature readers.
Shade is back in this new printing of the groundbreaking Vertigo trade from writer Peter Milligan. Collecting the first six Shade issues, beginning with Kathy George's encounter with Shade's arrival on Earth from his home dimension of Meta — in the body of her parents' killer.
From there, Shade and Kathy journey into America's collective unconscious to find the evil known only as The American Scream.
These are the classic Vertigo stories written by Peter Milligan, so if you've been digging the acclaimed writer's work on Greek Street and Hellblazer, be sure to pick up this new printing of Milligan's earlier work.
