I just finished reading this remarkable memoir. I kept waiting for the happy ending, which I knew, and which Sonali Deraniyagala kept reminding the reader, was not to come. It is an extraordinary book of unimaginable grief and pain, and how the author is still trying to deal with her loss.

Ms. Deraniyagala holds nothing back in relating the process she went through for years after losing her entire, immediate family to the "wave." It is a moving piece, in which she explains her very personal process of healing - if one can call it that - or at least one person's way of coping and carrying on...for ever after.
