Bethany Moreton: IMG Culture War on Aisle 5? Wal-Mart, Evangelicals, and "Extreme Capitalism"

"In the 'culture wars' narrative of the Republican ascendancy, this slippage represents the greatest con in recent history: while you rush to defend marriage or protect the unborn, please pay no attention to the financier behind the curtain." Continue »

How to Duck a Suckah: A Guide to Living a Drama-Free Life Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The Bodyguard for Women's Hearts returns with brand-new tough-love advice for satisfying relationships and spiritual fulfillment.

Some women have become so accustomed to the games and manipulations of men that they are virtually sitting ducks for all the suckahs out there. Every woman has to be able to recognize Mr. Wrong before she lets him into her heart. True love is definitely out there — you just have to know where to look.

In How to Duck a Suckah, Big Boom — a former pimp, player, and hustler — draws on his own sordid past to help women avoid traps, demand respect, and live a drama-free life. His overall message of self-empowerment proves that you can't be happy with anyone else unless you are happy with yourself.

Review:

"Author and 'Bodyguard for Women's Hearts' Boom provides tough love that's as frank as it is old-fashioned, a style best demonstrated by the title of his first book, If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start with Your Legs. A former bad boy (read: working pimp) himself, Boom warns that 'men are always looking for something to catch or shoot down,' but locates the real problem in the woman 'who refuses to let go... or change her bad habits.' To that end, Boom spends much time chiding women for ignoring unwritten rules of gender relations like, 'Girls follow, men lead.' In a chapter called 'Appearance' (Boom is nothing if not straightforward), the author starts with 'Seven Important Beauty Basics Steps My Wife Uses' before moving on to tips like 'Don't Wear Your Clothes Too Tight,' keep your home clean and remember the small things: 'I can't tell you how many good women I have turned down,' Boom says, because of 'something stupid' like 'the way her toenails look.' The assumption throughout is that it's far easier and more effective to play along with superficial attitudes (among men and women alike) than to change them; if you can embrace the game, and put up with some well-intentioned chauvinism, this is an able primer." Review:

"Boom has made the biggest turnaround in a person's life that I've ever known.... Boom knows what he's talking about and isn't afraid to tell the truth!"-- Steve Harvey, The Steve Harvey Morning Show
