Little Tree

by e. e. cummings and Chris Raschka

Little Tree Cover

For those who celebrate Christmas, getting a Christmas tree can be a treasured pastime. As a child, I often wondered about the tree my family picked out at the tree farm near our house. Would it miss its fellow tree friends and family? Would the little tree be happy in its new home? Obviously I was not alone. "Little Tree," a poem by E.E. Cummings, included at the beginning of this book, inspired Chris Raschka to create his own version of the story about a little evergreen's journey home. Simply a delight!

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

"Little tree, little silent Christmas tree, you are so little, you are more like a flower, who found you in the green forest, and were you very sorry to come away?"

So begins this loving tribute to the tiny evergreen tree, taken away from the cold forest to be decorated and adored by two children in their home at Christmas. A truly affecting book that should be under ever family's Christmas tree, little tree is a much loved poem and this new picture book, filled with unique, full-color illustrations captures all the joy and magic of this cherished Christmas favorite.

Review:

"This joyously illustrated version of cummings's well-loved poem should take root in many household collections." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"[A] beautiful contribution to the literature of Christmas and brings to light a poem not familiar to many children." Children's Literature

Review:

"Visually, and as a simple, sweetly old-fashioned read-aloud, Little Tree embodies the warm sense of love and belonging that for many defines the true meaning of Christmas." School Library Journal
