From the Preface
...I’m often asked how I’ve come to do what I do—there are no current schools for wizards that I know of. But from 1987 to 1994 I learned my tradecraft the traditional way, by apprenticing to a stern taskmaster in his workshop in the woods. Ever since, I’ve been yearning to open the doors of our school to others, and this book is the result of that yearning.
This tale of my mystical apprenticeship lived inside me during the last twenty years beneath everything I did, stubbornly refusing to go away until I committed it to paper. It’s a true story of individuals who journeyed beyond the borders where the Known meets the Unknown, and came up with surprising conclusions, which became, for at least one of us, a matter of life and death.
This isn’t a novel, a dissection of ancient prophecies, or a list of predictions. Other recent and forthcoming books on 2012 are slanted in those directions and can be referred to for those. I’m not going to tell you what will happen in 2012, because even though I’ve been known to make accurate predictions now and then, the truth is I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have ideas, but much depends on the choices we now make. Much is riding upon how well we seize the moment. Much depends upon how Big you’re willing to dream.
Throughout my practice as Soul Level Astrologer during the last two decades I’ve listened to the dreams of thousands. I’ve become a carrier of the dreams people hold in their hearts, helping them build bridges from here to there. I’ve learned many things about human transformation, what assists it, what supports it, what gets in the way. I’ve come to believe that some powerful new dream is gestating in the depths of our species. If enough of us catch wind of this dream we may usher in a future that stuns us by breaking the rules of what we think of as everyday life on Planet Earth.
Though astrology was the lure our canny wizard used to draw us into his mountain home, over the years I’ve found the story to be much bigger than star talk. Astrology is the main channel we tapped to haul up a new creation myth that appears to be bubbling in the depths of our species, a new dream of life on Earth unfolding more fully than before. But if we were correct and that dream is real—then it can be found anywhere. Astrology is a main access route but any path that goes deep enough can take you there. Anything that activates the core nature of a human being will suffice. Anything that ignites the urge to create a blazingly authentic existence during a time of great distortions and lies can tap the same wellspring, fortifying us to sweep away obsolete stories of what we’re doing around here and usher in something new.
Though they don’t all specifically agree on the year 2012, various cultural prophecies point to our era as a major pivot point in human evolution: the Bible, the Book of Mormon, Hopi, Navajo, Buddhist and Mayan prophecy, sacred Hindu texts, among others. I’m not going to delve into these sources. My goal is to usher you down that private dirt driveway beneath the giant redwoods, and plant you on the couch in front of the crackling wood fire in that timeless cottage, where the mysteries burn bright, and together we can cross a bridge to the future.
Mark Borax has given us a vision of the future that is as hopeful as it is radical. He is proposing nothing less than that we are beginning to heal the cosmic breach from which all our other problems--ecological, political, social, spiritual--originate. In order to get from here to there, we must recover our memory of our Atlantean heritage, whether Atlantic was a real geographical continent or a phase of our consciousness. We must see, lucidly and unambiguously, who we are, where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going.
--Richard Grossinger, author of Planet Medicine and The Bardo of Waking Life
Mark Borax's book provides a long-overdue introduction to the work of Ellias Lonsdale, a visionary astrologer who should be as well known as Jane Roberts or Edgar Cayce.
--Rob Brezsny, author of Pronoia Is the Antidote to Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings
This writer's gift for observation allows us to sit in on those sessions at the Santa Cruz mystery school. The story is about a very curious seeker on a quest for love and wisdom that leads us into the big mysteries of the cosmos... The book offers hope, woven into a personal story, about living in this uncertain age. This remarkable book calls for us to claim our soul depths, and to be fully alive here on Earth. It's full of fascinating ideas about past lives, the lost city of Atlantis, and more....
If you've been overwhelmed by fear and confusion, this book shines light on this dark time. I found resonance in what he said about a great purging, a speeding up of evolution, an influx of energies, and] a growing awareness of our spirit selves...
--Molly Hall, Astrology Guide, About.com
Borax is simply a superb writer. Even skeptics of 2012 theory will find this book reads like a well spun novel one cannot put down. If you seek to understand what it takes to become fully alive in this physical and spiritual experience we share, Mark Borax's 2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Future is a must read.
From the Trade Paperback edition.
2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Future is an engaging personal narrative through the author's apprenticeship with master astrologer William Lonsdale who teaches him how to access asource of great power and creativity buried within the human soul.
The book begins in August 1987 on the slopes of Mount Shasta in Northern California as Borax witnesses the HarmonicConvergence, a spiritual and astrological event sparking a 26-year countdown to 2012, the year that marks the end of history in the Mayan calendar. Signs indicate that a major energyshift is occurring, a turning point in Earth's collective karma powerful enough to change the global perspective of humankind.
Borax's mountaintop experiencescompel him to seek solutions to his personal turmoil. He meets Lonsdale and together they launch a mystery school to study how the twenty-five-year period between 1987 and 2012 can be used for a cosmic purging ofnegativity to release humanity's core forces and restore universal balance. En route, Borax and his fellow students discover truths about life after death, karma, reincarnation, past lives, human evolution, andthe purpose of our existence on earth. In the tradition of The Teachings of Don Juan, Carlos Castaneda's tales of his shamanic master, 2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Futureis a gripping sorcerer's apprentice story driven by mystical forces, encouraging readers to expand their everyday awareness and challenge their fundamental beliefs about their place in theuniverse.
