Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The greatest partnership in the history of the musical, captured in print, wonderfully illustrated, and revised. Packed with wonderfully evocative photographs from the glory days of Broadway, Nolan's book tells not just the story of the two men's careers, but the story of the creation of their beloved works — Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The Sound of Music — as well. This revision includes new material on Rodger's early career.

Book News Annotation:

The original work was published in 1978; although this book is not so identified in the title, this is a second or revised edition. Editor and writer Nolan tells how the pair's most popular musicals were created, and provides details about the people who took part. Released to coincide with the centennial year of Richard Rodgers, this new edition contains previously unpublished material on Rodgers' early life and a new appendix summarizing the continuing importance of the artists' work from 1978 to the present. Illustrated with b&w photos.

I have the 1978 version of this book. I did not know that there is a revised version of the book and I intend to look into it.

I find this book to be very informative about two men
who wrote wonderful Broadway Musicals Together.

They have a legacy that will never go away.

As new generations of children are born they will get
to see the brillance of these men who are no longer
with us.

Yet their words and music are forever captured on
the big screen.

You can find comfort in the songs that they wrote
together and you can learn from the songs as well.

I highly recommend this book to all of the Movie
Musical lovers of the world.
