Publisher Comments:

For decades the public has been fascinated with the Kennedy family. America's royalty, the Kennedys have stood the test of time as a social and political dynasty. But behind the high-profile political persona of John F. Kennedy was an extended family who enjoyed relaxing together at what was known as the Winter White House in Palm Beach, Florida. Beginning in the late 1950s, Davidoff, a society photographer, became a friend to Rose Kennedy and was granted access to the family in Palm Beach, photographing birthday celebrations, holidays, and anniversaries, as well as historical milestones, such as the announcement of JFK's cabinet and the tension surrounding the Bay of Pigs. Even after JFK's death, Davidoff continued to photograph Jackie, Caroline, JFK Jr., and the rest of the extended family on vacations and in moments of play. His photographs became treasured keepsakes to members of the family. In later years, Davidoff began following the family to other vacation destinations, such as Sun Valley, Idaho, and Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. He recalled witnessing a raucous bunch of cousins swimming and sailing and captured a comical photo series of John Jr. and cousin Sidney Lawford being rescued from their capsized boat by a gaggle of cousins in a speedboat. Eventually the children he'd met in the '60s grew and began bringing their own children to the Palm Beach house, and several photos depict Rose proudly showing off her great-grandchildren.

Synopsis:

Up until his death in 2004, Bob Davidoff had been the photographer in residence at the Kennedy's Winter White House--better known as their Palm Beach home. For almost fifty years, Davidoff chronicled the extended Kennedy clan on holiday, capturing the youthful JFK and his beautiful family during their moments of fun and relaxation. The legendary Davidoff was a fixture in the Kennedy Florida household, and many of his photos are part of the family's personal collections.

Now, for the first time in book form, Bob Davidoff's Kennedy photos of their days in the sun--in Palm Beach as well as in Hyannis Port, Sun Valley, and other favorite getaway spots--have been collected in The Kennedy Family Album, Linda Corley, an Emmy Award-winning writer, provides the anecdotes behind the pictures and captures many of their unscripted moments, from Jackie surprising her husband on the tarmac of the Palm Beach airport to Rose leading a family sing-along. Most of these photos have never been seen by the general public, making The Kennedy Family Album a truly unique and unstaged portrait of America's royal family.

This is a beautiful book, with pictures I have never seen before. I was always curious to know more about the Kennedy's in Palm Beach and this is a stunning depiction. I was especially touched by a few photos - one of President Kennedy as he headed off to Dallas, completely unaware of what was to befall him (and us) and also a wonderful photo of Ted Kennedy putting his young son on a bicycle. I plan to give this book as a holiday gift this year and recommend it highly.
