Publisher Comments:

Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children—and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses. In this recorded weekend retreat, Pema draws on Buddhist teachings from The Way of the Bodhisattva to reveal how we can:

   • stay centered in the midst of difficulty

   • improve stressful relationships

   • step out of the downward spiral of self-hatred

   • awaken compassion for ourselves and others

3 CDs, 3 hours

Synopsis:

In this three-CD program, Pema Chö drö n draws on Buddhist teachings to reveal how to find real happiness amid the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of living. The secret, Pema says, is to develop the courage to investigate these experiences with an open heart, instead of avoiding or reacting to them. It is only when we courageously face painful experiences head on that we will be released from the “ hooks” of anger, blame, and other habitual responses that only cause suffering for ourselves and others. Here, in this recorded weekend retreat, Pema Chö drö n offers practical and inspiring advice on topics such as: Developing courage in the face of difficultyStepping out of the downward spiral of self-hatredThe revolutionary practice of patienceHealthy and unhealthy expressions of frustrationsHow to awaken compassion for oneself and others

This audio program also includes a 24-page booklet with verses from the classic Buddhist text The Way of the Bodhisattva, reinforcing the key ideas from Pema’ s talk.

I have been listening to the audio series, I would love to read the book. Pema is such an incredible teacher, at times it can be overwhelming to read what she is saying but she always has such a great way of coming around and making things just pop! You get it, you feel it. In two days I have gone through the audio twice before bed last night, in the car on the way to work, on my lunch hour. She touches on the siplest ideas that make you realize how foolish we can be in our frustrations over so many things.

If you are looking to make a change in your life, to end sarcasm, passive-agressive behaviors, I urge you to purchase her books. Don't bite the hook is a wonderful start!
