Jonathan Lethem: IMG Stops: On Those Things My New Novel Forgot to Be About, Maybe

For me, there's a weird, unfathomable gulf — I almost wrote gulp — between the completion of a novel and its publication. Some days this duration feels interminable, as though the book has... Continue »

Like Harry Potter, characters from the Fablehaven Series spring from it's pages directly into your heart, and there take up permanent residence. Book one begins with the tale of two siblings--the good Kendra, age thirteen, and her mischievous brother, Seth, eleven--very with-it kids of today, squabbling in the car like some you may know personally. When they are unexpectedly palmed off on little-known grandparents for the summer holiday, the two soon discover they aren't quite in Connecticut anymore.

Book two aged the children a year, and in this third installment, Kendra is 15 and her pesky little brother, 13. Seth has still not learned his lessons about minding his grandparents very well, much to the delight of readers everywhere. You are quickly swept into ancient legends, where you join Kendra battling larger-than-life Hopi Kachina Warriors over stairs only visible to her in a cloudburst. Action in this book never ends, leaving readers breathless at the conclusion, and eagerly awaiting book four.

Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague debuted on the New York Times Bestseller List for Children's Literature at #3, so you know it is worth owning. Chances are it's a book you'll want to read aloud to your own children, but you'll be forgiven if you simply savor it yourself, along with that chocolate bar you've stashed away in your freezer.

Almost as good as Harry Potter. This is the 3rd book in the series and just as good as the first two. Filled with Magic and Adventure, the characters are fun and easy to follow. Great to read by yourself or to your children!

I really enjoyed it!
